Pessy Zeiger

Hi, My name is Pessy Zeiger, and four years ago I stood on the stage before the Tour De Simcha ride and committed to join as a rider. So what, you may ask. For those who don't know me, here's my story - Right before my 14th birthday, I was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma. HaShem was extremely kind and it was discovered early. The first call my parents made after the diagnosis was to Chai Lifeline. They helped us get consultations with the top NY doctors who treat this disease. We were introduced to my oncologist Dr. Lenny Wexler at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and to Dr. Daniel Prince, the orthopedist who operated on my leg to remove the tumor. With HaShems help, after a 12 hour surgery, the doctor removed the tumor from my right femur. Along with the removal of the tumor, there was a need to remove 16cm (that's a little more than 6 inches!) of my femur bone. Boruch HaShem, I was a candidate for a process called bone-regeneration, which through a complicated procedure - I won't bore you with the details - regrew my femur bone. I will forever be thankful to HaShem and to my doctor for making this happen! Suffice it to say, the year was not an easy one. After many rounds of chemotherapy and multiple surgeries on my leg, I was finally ready to start physical therapy. However, since my leg was fully extended for an entire year, the therapist had to "teach" my leg to bend again. Things which we all take for granted, had to be learned anew. Also, in order to remove the tumor, lots of muscle had to be cut away. Which meant a total rebuilding of the muscles in my leg. Throughout these few years, I was a camper at Camp Simcha - the happiest place on this planet - where kids like me get to spend two weeks forgetting about our pain. Four summers ago, I was invited to tell my story on the Tour De Simcha stage, and I went off-script and challenged myself to ride with the women once I was well enough to ride. So, here I am now, Boruch HaShem riding literally on a daily basis, and can't wait for July 11, 2023 when we will IY"H ride into camp and greet other kids going through what I went through. I hope to be able to give them chizuk and hope that HaShem heals, and that there is life beyond cancer. I am not asking that you join me while I climb the difficult hills. I am not even asking you to break a sweat ;-) All I'm humbly asking is that you join me in supporting this wonderful organization who stood by my side from the moment I was diagnosed until now. They are a real lifesaving organization with a wonderful group of people who are dedicated to each and every one of us. Please click on my link below to donate now. May HaShem bless you and your loved ones never to go through what I went through, and that you be able to happily live and give to those who are unfortunately in need. Pessy
